Integrating Harm Reduction in Peer Support

This is a 1-day training designed for individuals interested in becoming Peer Support Specialists. This class is MABPCB APPROVED for 4 CEU’s in the HARM REDUCTION Domain.

In this training, participants will:

  • Define Harm Reduction and discuss how it relates to our work as Peer Supporter

  • Learn the eight principles of Harm Reduction, and how it is applied in the preservation of the Peer Role

  • Review a more practical approach to the Stages of Change as it applies to Harm Reduction.

  • Testing our own biases, defining Implicit biases & what we can do to address them.

  • Defining stigma, the cycle and attributes of stigma, the effects of stigma, how biases and stigmas work together, and what we can do to combat stigma.

  • Be able to identify when someone is having an overdose, and  learn the proper way to administer Opioid overdose reversal. 

  • Will be able to practice these skills in an interactive way.
